SA: Public phone in to crack down on cannabis use

South Australian Police are planning a public phone-in to crack down on the cultivation
and use of cannabis.

New statistics show cannabis use by South Australians aged between 14 and 19 years
old is 10 per cent higher than the national average.

The National Drug Strategy Household survey also shows the state has the cheapest cannabis
and the most hydroponic shops, which sell equipment for growing cannabis indoors.

Police Commissioner MAL HYDE says the phone poll will be held on May 9 using the familiar
Crimestoppers number of 1800 333 000.

He says the phone-in, called "Switch off a Hydro Crop, Help Police Pull the Plug on
a Cannabis Crop", will target growers, dealers and thieves who target cannabis crops.
