When my father passed away four years ago, I told my family and friends that I really had two fathers. One father was the workaholic of my first 21 years. He was a man who lost his family business in 1965 and then spent the next 20 years making up for that loss by working two jobs - seven days a week, rarely taking time off.
The only time my brother and I communicated with him was at night after work, when one of us would be assigned the stool position by the television set and my father would sit in his Archie Bunker recliner and yell "switch." (We were the 1960s version of a remote control.)
